Green Terramesh is being used to build a soil reinforcement wall near to a shopping centre in Tirana.
Creating connections with people in different cities is very important today. This can be achieved by building highways which will improve the development of the nearby cities.
Tirana and Elbasan are two big cities of Albania. Near from a geographical point of view, but not in terms of road distance. Construction of the Tirana-Elbasan Highway started in 2012. It is designed to take road traffic away from the mountains and to reduce journey time. The highway is 12 km long and almost half of it runs through an urbanized area and then over steep mountains.
Most of the highway was already built using Maccaferri products and, in section one, near to a shopping centre, it needed a huge embankment provided by retaining walls.
The retaining wall should be structural and environmentally friendly at the same time. Considering these factors the client chose to build a Green Terramesh retaining wall. This huge embankment will enable the length of the road to be reduced by 3 km.
Maccaferri Balkans in cooperation with Copri-Aktor designed the embankment by using Green Terramesh and geogrid MacGrid WG15. The retaining wall base measures 15 m and its height is 28 m. Construction is due to be finished next year.
