GABION RIVER PROTECTION - RIVER DRIN

The River Drin, located in the western Albania, is an essential waterway that plays a crucial role in the region’s ecology, economy, and hydrology. To address the growing challenges of erosion, flooding, and habitat degradation, a river protection structure using gabions has been implemented along its banks. Gabions, wire mesh cages filled with stones, provide a sustainable and cost-effective solution for stabilizing riverbanks, reducing erosion, and protecting surrounding infrastructure. This approach not only enhances the river’s resilience to environmental changes but also promotes the preservation of its natural beauty and ecological balance.

The completed works for the protection of the Drin River from erosion in Juban, Shkodra, guarantee the protection of over 500 hectares of agricultural land and inhabited areas from erosion by the Drin River.
