To overcome the geotechnical challenges along the Gradsko–Drenovo expressway, the project team adopted a range of Maccaferri solutions tailored to the site’s complex terrain. Terramesh® System retaining walls combined with high-strength geogrids were used to stabilize steep embankments and provide long-term structural reinforcement. In sections with highly unstable soils, Gabion Walls offered flexible and durable protection, adapting effectively to ground movements while ensuring slope stability. For areas threatened by surface erosion, MacMat® R was installed to secure exposed slopes, allowing vegetation to establish and reducing the risk of washouts. These systems were supported by improved drainage channels to manage water flow and prevent undermining of the structures. The integration of Maccaferri’s engineered solutions created a safe, resilient, and environmentally compatible expressway corridor.
