Three of our latest transportation infrastructure projects in Slovakia:
- D3 Svrcinovec-Skalite
- D1 Motorway Hricovske Podhradie – Lietavska Lucka
- I/72 Zbojská, Sedlo – Tisovec Čertova, exemplify our ability to appropriately analyze a problem and provide a suitable and efficient solution for it.
For the D3 Svrcinovec-Skalite project, we provided a reinforced soil structure for the tunnel portal “Pol’ana.” The project targeted two different tunnel locations on the D3 motorway:
– a tunnel portal for which two stages of gabion cladding were installed
– a second tunnel stretch for which Maccaferri Central Europe provided a Terramesh reinforced soil structure.
For the D1 Motorway Hricovske Podhradie – Lietavska Lucka Maccaferri Central Europe detailed a MacRes reinforced soil structure featuring vertical concrete precast facing panels in combination with Paraweb polymer geostrips for reinforcement. Main contractor STRABAG, selected the MacRes System due to its main advantages of speed of construction, functionality, and economic benefits in comparison with traditional concrete gravity walls.
The project was featured on November 3rd, in a news titled D1 Motorway – Hricovske Podhradie – Lietavska Lucka, and on January 14th, in a news titled D1 Hričovské Podhradie – Lietavska Lucka, Object 222.
In the case of the third project—a road refurbishment project—Maccaferri Central Europe contributed to the upgrade of the layout of the state road that passes through the hilly area of the Veporské mountains. The road cutting was experiencing weathering and there was a hazard from falling debris onto the carriageway. Maccaferri’s Steelgrid HR100 and HR30 high-strength steel wire mesh systems, and the MacMat R1 steel reinforced erosion control geocomposite were selected to provide long-term surface stabilization of the road cut against weathering and surface erosion.
In all three cases, Maccaferri Central Europe was chosen by contractors for its ability to provide optimized solutions that are:

The primary products used for the transportation infrastructure solutions above were Gabions, Terramesh systems, Paraweb geostrip reinforcement, Steelgrid HR, and the steel reinforced erosion control geomat MacMat R1.
