Trin’40: a new challenge in the Class40 circuit for Maccaferri Futura
After a season focused on double-handed racing, ocean skipper Luca Rosetti returns to solo competition in the first real test ahead of the Route du Rhum.
Maccaferri Futura, the Class40 built by Officine Maccaferri set sail tomorrow for a new high-intensity competition, with ocean skipper Luca Rosetti at the helm.
The boat will line up at the start of the first edition of the Trin’40, one of the most anticipated new events of the season, organized by the Société Nautique de La Trinité-sur-Mer (SNT) in partnership with the Class40 Association. From the outset, it presents itself as a highly technical and competitive race, with over 30 skippers entered. The 1,200-nautical-mile course across the Bay of Biscay – from Brittany to the south of England, down to Cape Finisterre and back – is designed as a pure solo sailing challenge. Included in the Class40 Solo Trophy calendar, the race aims to provide a concrete testing ground from the early stages of the Atlantic season: a demanding race in which every strategic decision, from weather routing to boat preservation, can influence the final result.
The route has been designed to test not only the performance of the boats, but also the sailors’ ability to manage fatigue, push their boats to the limit and interpret potentially complex weather and sea conditions. For Rosetti and Maccaferri Futura, this represents a particularly significant challenge: a solo race where every decision can determine the final outcome. It is a context in which it is not only speed that makes the difference, but above all the ability to maintain clarity, consistency of performance and physical endurance throughout the entire course. Participation in this race marks a key step for Maccaferri Futura in the lead-up to the Route du Rhum, the legendary solo transatlantic race that every four years takes the fleet from Saint-Malo to the Caribbean, where reliability, endurance and strategic solidity will be decisive.
“We are pleased to take part in the very first edition of the Trin’40, which represents an important milestone within Maccaferri Futura’s season,” said Sergio Iasi, Chairman of Officine Maccaferri. “We are ready to take on this new challenge with great determination, fully aware of the value that each sporting milestone has in strengthening performance and credibility ahead of the most important ocean races of the year.”
“Returning to solo racing is always a very intense moment: it completely changes the way you race, because every decision at sea depends solely on you. But it is in these situations that you can truly make the most of all the work done by the team,” added Luca Rosetti. “The Trin’40 is a very well-rounded race, especially at the start of the season: it requires you to be immediately competitive, while also being extremely clear-headed in managing both your energy and the boat. The goal is to quickly find the right balance to compete with a very high-level Class40 fleet.”
