Maccaferri’s commitment to build resilient and sustainable infrastructure and foster innovation

Investments aimed at building sustainable infrastructures and encouraging scientific and technological research drive economic growth, create new jobs and contribute to societies’ well-being. Maccaferri strives every day to deliver cutting-edge solutions to its global portfolio of customers, ensuring that innovation is a process spanning all latitude and longitude, in line with the company’s mission “nurturing the world of tomorrow”, based developing long-lasting and environmentally friendly solutions.

In line with SDG 9, whose goal is to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation, Maccaferri pledges its commitment, not only towards the environment, but also towards its people and external stakeholders, by providing them all with solutions that bring environmental, social and economic benefits, aimed at mitigating natural and man-made hazards, thus increasing people’s safety and improving their living conditions.

Maccaferri encourages continuous improvement to put the long-term economic and environmental impacts of a structure at the centre of its design activity. For example, in 2021 Maccaferri launched a new design approach for design walls, which introduces the concept of design working life and long-term impact of the wall, in addition to focusing on testing campaigns and investments in performance evaluation. These campaigns have shown that the new approach, on which the GAWAC 3.0 software is based, allows the gabion walls structures to be enhanced, maximising performance over time and minimising the costs generated by the structure over its life cycle.

Maccaferri encourages innovation, focusing on identifying long-term economic and environmental benefits for its stakeholders. Besides its dedicated Research and Development centre, Maccaferri has developed, together with institutions and universities, user-friendly software suites that enable engineers to design and deliver effective and reliable civil engineering solutions, while also offering additional cost-effectiveness benefits. Finally, the company also makes its solutions available as digital objects supported by metadata (Building Information Model Objects), boosting the BIM technology adoption to improve design and construction processes by preventing operational inaccuracies on site.

Follow us in the next episodes to explore in detail the best practices adopted, and the changes implemented by Maccaferri along its journey towards a more sustainable world.
