Maccaferri strengthens its presence in India with a new manufacturing plant and a dedicated leadership structure

Maccaferri is expanding its industrial footprint in India through the development of what will become the Group’s second-largest manufacturing facility worldwide. To support the next phase of growth, Varun Sikand will lead the India Region.

Officine Maccaferri announces a further step in its expansion strategy in India, one of the Group’s key growth markets. The Group will invest in a new manufacturing plant in the country, reinforcing its long-term industrial presence and supporting the increasing demand generated by infrastructure development and economic growth.

After almost thirty years of presence in the country, India has become one of the Group’s main growth drivers, supported by strong business expansion, significant infrastructure market potential, and the country’s industrial and commercial development prospects. Against this backdrop, Maccaferri keeps strengthening its commitment to the market through the development of what is set to become the Group’s second-largest manufacturing facility worldwide, located in Khandale. The new plant, which will be built on an area of approximately 400,000 sq ft, will significantly increase production volumes, manufacturing complexity and market coverage. The expansion will further enhance Maccaferri’s capabilities across geosynthetics, double-twist and rockfall protection solutions.

This investment reinforces India’s role as a key pillar of Maccaferri’s future growth and reflects the Group’s commitment to the “Make in India” programme, India’s major governmental initiative aimed at facilitating investment, fostering innovation, and building best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure. The new plant will serve as a global manufacturing hub supplying both domestic and international markets, especially SEAP and Middle East.

To lead this new phase, Varun Sikand will assume the role of Head of India Region and Managing Director of MESPL (Maccaferri Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd.). Since joining Maccaferri, Sikand has delivered strong results, contributing to the development of the business and the strengthening of Maccaferri’s position in the Indian market. Sikand will be responsible for the overall leadership of the region, with the aim of consolidating business growth, strengthening the Group’s market presence and supporting the development of its industrial and commercial activities in the country. Sikand succeeds Vikramjiet Roy, who has recently been appointed Head of Global Sales Performance & Strategy of the Group, reporting directly to Group CEO Stefano Susani.

India is one of Maccaferri’s most strategic growth markets” – said Stefano Susani, Group CEO of Officine Maccaferri. “The new manufacturing facility – set to become the second-largest in our global network – marks a major step in our expansion plan and will strengthen our ability to support the country’s infrastructure and industrial transformation. As India gains further scale and relevance within the Group, Varun’s appointment will provide experienced leadership and stronger local execution. His track record and deep understanding of the local market make him the ideal figure to guide India through this next phase of growth.

I am honoured to lead the India Region at such an important moment in the Group’s development” – said Varun Sikand, Head of India Region and Managing Director of MESPL. “The country offers significant opportunities in terms of infrastructure growth, and the investment in a new plant represents a major step forward in expanding our presence in the country. Our objective will be to further strengthen our execution capabilities and the country’s contribution to Maccaferri’s global growth.
