Maccaferri innovates tunnel construction with automated ribs.
Maccaferri has introduced a new system of 'automated ribs' for conventional tunnel construction, combining steel tubular sections with shotcrete for improved safety and efficiency.
This method, showcased at the World Tunnel Congress in Shenzhen, eliminates the need for workers near the excavation face and offers significant cost and time savings. The system has been successfully used in Italy and is now being promoted internationally. Ongoing studies suggest further material efficiencies, positioning Maccaferri’s automated ribs as a transformative advancement in the field.
