Usec Bernardo conducts inspection of the Road Slope Protection Structure of Tacloban City Bypass Road

Maccaferri’s innovative and complete system solution for rockfall mitigation and slope consolidation works were presented to stabilize the slope and mitigate the hazard of rockfall and shallow surficial failure.

Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary for Regional Operations in the Visayas, NCR and Region 4B Roberto R. Bernardo inspects the ongoing Road Slope Protection Structure of Tacloban City ByPass Road in Leyte. The engineering intervention will help stabilize the slope and mitigate the hazard of rockfall and shallow surficial failure. Furthermore, it is indispensable to prevent future soil collapse or shallow landslides that could cause road inaccessibility/closure and accidents in this section of the road.

During the inspection, Maccaferri Philippines Technical Assistant Manager Neil Esber, presented the innovative and complete system for rockfall mitigation and slope consolidation works designed in the project.

Steelgrid HR 30 uses a breakthrough composite mesh technology that currently offers the highest tensile strength among the rockfall systems available in the local market. It also provides the longest working life made possible by the Class A GalMac® (Zn/Al) coating.

The 33-kilometer six-lane Tacloban City Bypass Road will decongest traffic along Tacloban-Babatngon Road going to Tacloban City, shortening travel time from 1.5 hours to only 45 minutes.

The Construction Team, Under the implementation supervision of Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations in the Visayas, NCR, and Region IV-B, Antonio V. Molano Jr. and Regional Director Nerie Bueno, are completing the works involving road concreting and installation of an active slope protection system.
