Rockfall Hazards Eliminated: A New Era of Safety in Leyte
Discover how Maccaferri's MacArmour & Steelgrid HR30, along with MacMat EM, are enhancing safety in Babatngon, Leyte.
In Babatngon, Leyte, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VIII embarked on a crucial project to mitigate the hazards posed by a steep slope adjacent to a major public road. This area, with slopes reaching up to 50 meters in height, was prone to surficial erosion, posing significant risks to motorists, nearby beach resorts, and residential areas.
To address these dangers, an Active Rockfall Protection System designed to preserve public infrastructure and protect the surrounding community was implemented. The solution employed Maccaferri’s advanced MacArmour & Steelgrid HR and MacMat EM, which provided essential surface strengthening and support to stabilize the slope effectively.
The project utilized 55 rolls of Steelgrid HR30 and 83 rolls of MacMat EM, ensuring comprehensive coverage and reinforcement. These materials were chosen for their exceptional durability and effectiveness in preventing rockfall and erosion.
This undertaking began on August 27, 2023, and was successfully completed by March 8, 2024. Throughout this period, the coordinated efforts of DPWH Regional Office VIII and the use of Maccaferri’s innovative solutions focused on enhancing road safety and protecting the local community.
This initiative highlights the commitment of Maccaferri Philipines and DPWH to improving infrastructure safety through advanced engineering solutions. The Active Rockfall Protection System in Babatngon not only addresses immediate risks but also contributes to the long-term resilience of the region’s transportation infrastructure.
