The Cebu-Balamban Transcentral Highway, a vital route connecting Cebu City to the western towns of Cebu province, has faced significant challenges due to slips, slope collapses, and landslides. These recurring issues not only threaten the structural integrity of the highway but also pose safety risks to motorists and hinder seamless connectivity.

The Challenge: Slips, Slope Collapse, and Landslides

This critical section of the Cebu-Balamban Transcentral Highway, has been repeatedly impacted by natural hazards, leading to unstable road conditions. Without immediate intervention, the risks of further deterioration and disruptions in transportation remain high.

Innovative Solution: Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Wall with Maccaferri Products

To address the challenges of slips, slope collapses, and landslides along the Cebu-Balamban Transcentral Highway, the project employs a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Wall. This engineering solution is renowned for its ability to stabilize slopes, prevent further collapses, and deliver a durable, cost-efficient outcome.

By utilizing advanced Maccaferri geotechnical materials, the MSE Wall provides exceptional performance, durability, and sustainability. The products used in this project offer specific benefits that enhance the overall effectiveness of the solution:

• MACGRID WG 8: A high-strength geogrid designed for superior soil reinforcement. It ensures effective load distribution, improving the wall’s structural integrity and resilience against future slope instability.
• MACDRAIN W106: A drainage geocomposite that efficiently manages water flow within the slope, reducing water pressure and preventing erosion. It ensures long-term drainage performance to maintain slope stability.
• MACMAT 14.3: An erosion control mat that safeguards the surface against soil loss while promoting vegetation growth. This helps integrate the slope with its natural surroundings, contributing to an environmentally friendly solution.
