Maccaferri’s Reinforced Soil System at Western Dedicated Freight Corridors (WDFC)

MacRes® system with precast concrete panels as fascia and Paraweb® geostrips as primary reinforcement was installed to construct Road Over Bridge (ROB) at WDFC

Reinforced Soil System with concrete panel as fascia was successfully installed to construct a high axle load Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) covering about 3,325 km on the Eastern and Western corridors.

Ministry of Railways (MOR), Government of India has planned to construct a high axle load Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) covering about 3,325 km on the Eastern and Western corridors. The Western corridor is planned from Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mumbai to Tughlakabad/ Dadri near Delhi. This covers a length of 1,483 km (JNPT –Ahmadabad – Palanpur – Rewari – Asaoti – Dadri) and is planned to be implemented in two phases. The first phase encompasses construction of 935 km between Vadodara and Rewari and is planned through eight contract packages (CT P). Sojitz- L&T consortium has been awarded with two packages (CT P-1 & CT P-2).

In CTP -1 & CTP- 2 of WDFC, four road over bridges (Bridge No. 6, 11A, 64 & 473) was to be constructed and the approaches of these structures are to be retained. Reinforced Soil wall system (MacRes®) with precast concrete panels as fascia and Paraweb® as reinforcement was proposed to the Contractor for retention of approaches due to its flexibility, aesthetic finish, economy, speed of construction and long-term performance. T shaped fascia panels with plain finish and Paraweb® of strengths varying from 30kN to 100kN are used. The connection between the panels and Paraweb® was done by cavity connector casted in the panels. The maximum height of the Reinforced Soil wall is 16.0m.
