Maccaferri at the Australia and New Zealand Conference on Geomechanics 2023
Maccaferri will participate in the Australia and New Zealand Conference on Geomechanics 2023 (ANZGEO 2023) to be held in Cairns, Australia, from July 2nd to 5th, 2023.
ANZGEO 2023 aims to reconnect people post-COVID, help develop the next generation of geotechnical leaders through plenary and session presentations, and stimulate technical discussions.
Maccaferri will be present at the conference with an oral presentation of the paper titled “Serviceability Limit State Design of Gabion Walls and GSC Concept” and two poster presentations titled “Design of Flexible Rockfall Barriers in Accordance with UNI 11211-4: 2018” and “An Innovative Design Method for Structural Flexible Facing with Steel Mesh for Surficial Instabilities on Soil Slopes.”
The Australia and New Zealand Conference on Geomechanics 2023 (ANZGEO 2023) will take place at the Cairns Convention Centre in Australia from July 2nd to July 5th, 2023. Maccaferri’s paper titled “Serviceability Limit State Design of Gabion Walls and GSC Concept” introduces a new design approach and associated design parameter called the Gabion Serviceability Coefficient (GSC). This approach allows engineers and designers to anticipate long-term deformations of gabions and assess the factor of safety for the serviceability limit state.
The paper titled “Design of Flexible Rockfall Barriers in Accordance with UNI 11211-4: 2018” describes a new design method for rockfall barriers based on the recently revised Italian design guideline. The authors also present an Australian case study of a flexible barrier designed following this guideline.
In the paper titled “An Innovative Design Method for Structural Flexible Facing with Steel Mesh for Surficial Instabilities on Soil Slopes,” the authors propose a “hybrid” approach to the design of soil nailed flexible structural facings. This approach combines classical Limit Equilibrium Methods with an innovative displacement-controlled approach, allowing a realistic estimate of the stabilizing force required by the mesh to stabilize the surficial layer of the soil slope.
