CENTER FOR TECHNICAL LANDFILL OF TCHISSANGA, CONGO

Problem

In an environmental protection context, SLE aims to enhance the performance of the Tchissanga technical landfill site. SLE emerged from a partnership between Sitrad Congo (Industrial Services and Miscellaneous Works), which is also involved in sanitation activities, and the French company Ortec Industrial Services. The Tchissanga technical landfill site in Congo is a waste treatment, storage, and valorization center that complies with international standards. Established in 2007, this center is located in the Pointe-Noire region. Covering an area of 22 hectares, it includes a landfill for common industrial waste (DIB) and industrial waste (DIS), as well as facilities for the treatment and valorization of drilling mud. Among other features, the center comprises a sorting area, a waste compactor, a stabilization unit, a 10,000 m3 solidification basin, a storage basin, an incinerator, and more.

Solution

The company Ortec Industrial Services, specialized in industrial waste treatment, enlisted the services of France Maccaferri for the rehabilitation work of the cover of the center in 2019. Across the entire geosynthetic complex of the cover, the following materials were installed: a Geotextile 300 g/m² – Mactex H 3500, a HDPE Geomembrane 1.5 mm – Macline SDH 150, a Drainage Geocomposite – Macdrain W1041, a Soil Reinforcement Geogrid 110 kN/m – Macmat R1110. France Maccaferri supplied 11,000m² of each of these products.
