CDO ETERNAL GARDENS MEMORIAL PARK

Problem

Eternal Gardens is a leading developer of first-class memorial parks and provider of memorial care products and services. The latest addition to their ten memorial parks located throughout the Philippines is the Greenhills Memorial Park in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. In one section of the memorial park, a six-meter high retaining wall had collapsed after a series of heavy rainfall. The collapsed and damaged section of the existing wall made of hollow blocks with reinforced concrete columns stretched for some 40 meters. Immediate rehabilitation of failed section was required to ensure smooth operation in the memorial park.

Solution

The client provided necessary data, thus allowed Maccaferri engineers to determine the most appropriate and economical alternative solution. Given space constraint imposed by the existing concrete pavement at the bottom portion of the slope, Terramesh System reinforced soil wall was designed. Notwithstanding that Terramesh System reinforced soil wall allows the escape of infiltration through the wall facing to reduce pore water pressure, additional drainage provision was made by installing Maccaferri’s MacDrain drainage geocomposite and HDPE geopipe behind the reinforced zone. The construction was completed on time and the resulting wall facing has provided aesthetic to the environment, thanks to the quality workmanship of the contractor.
