BASF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH STATION

Problem

A portion of the toe of the existing natural slope along the perimeter of BASF Agricultural Research Station in Bay, Laguna has been scoured due to the meandering of the creek towards the perimeter of the facility. This has posed a potential danger of collapse of the perimeter fence on top of the slope. In this, BASF, through their Consultant, has studied the problem and searched an immediate and permanent solution. The affected portion is about 30 meters long, requiring a protection of about six meters high from creek bed.

Solution

Considering the space constraint and the dimension of the needed revetment protection structure, Maccaferri recommended its polymeric-coated gabion products. A 4m-high gabion gravity retaining wall has been proposed, with a sloping backfill protected against erosion by a robust reinforced geoblanket (MacMat R). As per actual site survey, the total height of the slope was found to be 5.5 meters. A 2m-wide Reno mattress at the toe of the wall was included in the design to aid against scouring.
