Bacolod Sanitary Landfill
Challenge
The City of Bacolod required a long-term and environmentally secure solution for its growing solid waste management needs. For the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Felisa, it was essential to implement an engineered containment system that would prevent leachate from contaminating surrounding soil and groundwater. The design called for a dual-liner system that would comply with environmental regulations and withstand the region’s climatic and geotechnical conditions.
Solution
To address the containment and environmental protection requirements of the Bacolod Sanitary Landfill, Maccaferri Philippines supplied both Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) and 1.5mm High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane liner. The GCL served as the secondary barrier layer, offering low permeability and self-sealing characteristics. On top of this, the 1.5mm HDPE liner was installed as the primary barrier, providing superior chemical resistance and durability against punctures and environmental stress.
This composite liner system ensured a reliable and high-performance containment solution for leachate management. Maccaferri’s timely supply of materials contributed to the smooth execution of the project and the long-term environmental integrity of the Bacolod Sanitary Landfill.
