The Challenge

The Ayala Alviera development in Pampanga faced increasingly intense and unpredictable rainfall, creating challenges for stormwater management. Preventing flooding in nearby areas and protecting infrastructure within the development was critical. A detention pond was designed to manage excess stormwater, but it was essential to ensure that water did not seep into the subgrade, which could reduce storage capacity and threaten nearby structures.

 

The Solution

To address these challenges, Maccaferri Philippines supplied a robust combination of geosynthetic solutions:

  • MacLine® GCL W10 – provided a low-permeability barrier lining the detention pond, preventing water infiltration into the subsoil and ensuring the pond maintained its designed capacity during heavy rainfall.
  • Polimac® – coated Reno Mattress – installed in the central diversion canal, these mattresses offered erosion protection, structural stability, and efficient stormwater conveyance, safely guiding water from the basin’s highest elevation to the outfall while preventing scouring.

 

The Result

By integrating GCL and Reno Mattresses, the Ayala Alviera project now features a reliable, long-lasting stormwater management system. The solution effectively protects the development from flooding, maintains storage capacity during peak rainfall events, and safeguards surrounding infrastructure—all while providing a durable and environmentally sound design.
