Reinforced Slope Stabilization in Cotabato

Discover how Maccaferri Philippines stabilized a landslide-prone slope in Cotabato with an MSE wall system to improve road safety and resilience.
Reinforced Slope Stabilization Along Kidapawan–Arakan Road

The Challenge

Along the busy Kidapawan–Arakan Road in Cotabato, a steep and unstable slope posed recurring landslide risks that regularly disrupted traffic and endangered public safety. Heavy rainfall and weak soil conditions further increased the likelihood of slope failure, making a durable and long-term stabilization solution essential to protect both the roadway and its users.

The Solution

Maccaferri Philippines implemented a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall with gabion facing to reinforce the slope and secure the road embankment. The system combined robust gabion units with geotextile reinforcement to improve structural stability, enhance drainage, and effectively resist erosion. This integrated design allowed surface and subsurface water to be safely managed, reducing hydrostatic pressure and minimizing the risk of collapse even during intense rainfall events.

The Result

With the completed MSE wall in place, the slope was stabilized and the roadway was significantly safer for daily commuters and commercial transport. The solution not only strengthened the road’s structural integrity but also reduced long-term maintenance requirements, helping ensure uninterrupted connectivity and improved safety for the surrounding communities.
