Protecting Infrastructure: Rockfall Mitigation in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya
Maccaferri provided a tailored slope protection solution in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, addressing rockfall hazards along the National Highway, ensuring road safety, and safeguarding vital infrastructure and the local community.
The section of the National Highway in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya faced a critical challenge: unstable slopes prone to rockfall incidents. This posed serious risks to transportation, residential areas, and the lives of commuters traversing the vital corridor. The absence of natural barriers magnified the threat, necessitating an urgent, reliable solution to safeguard infrastructure and public safety.
Maccaferriās advanced geotechnical solutions were deployed to mitigate the rockfall hazard. By combining Steel Grid HR 30 and MacMat EM 14.3, the project provided active slope protection tailored to the region’s needs. These solutions not only addressed immediate risks but also contributed to long-term slope stabilization and resilience.
The Challenge: Rockfall Hazard
Certain portions of the national highway faced significant risks from frequent rockfall. The unstable slopes, compounded by the proximity to critical infrastructure and residential areas, elevated the danger of property damage and potential loss of life. Immediate action was crucial to avert severe consequences and maintain socio-economic stability in the region.
The Solution: Active Rockfall Protection Systems
Maccaferriās slope protection system employed a strategic combination of advanced materials to strengthen and stabilize the vulnerable slopes effectively:
- Steel Grid HR 30: High-tensile netting designed to intercept and contain falling rocks, providing a robust layer of protection for critical areas.
- MacMat EM 14.3: A reinforced geomat to prevent surface erosion while encouraging vegetation growth for added slope stabilization.
These materials were carefully installed to enhance slope stability, intercept debris, and integrate eco-friendly practices. The solution adheres to international safety standards, ensuring the longevity and resilience of the transportation corridor.
Conclusion
The slope protection project along Bambangās National Highway showcases the importance of integrating innovative engineering with sustainable practices. Maccaferriās solutions ensured the safety of lives and infrastructure while fostering long-term slope resilience. This success sets a benchmark for proactive measures in addressing rockfall hazards in high-risk areas.
