The Challenge

As Bacolod City’s population and waste generation grew, so did the need for a long-term and environmentally secure solution. At the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Felisa, the priority was clear: prevent harmful leachate from seeping into the soil and groundwater. The system needed to be strong, reliable, and compliant with environmental standards.

The Solution

To meet this challenge, Maccaferri Philippines supplied a dual-liner protection system for the landfill. The solution combined:

• A Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL), which acts as a natural barrier with self-sealing properties.
• A 1.5mm HDPE Geomembrane, designed to resist chemicals, punctures, and harsh environmental conditions.

Together, these layers created a secure shield against leachate, ensuring the landfill operates safely and sustainably.

The Result

With the right materials in place and delivered on time, the Bacolod Sanitary Landfill now has a robust and eco-friendly containment system. This project highlights how engineered solutions can protect communities, preserve the environment, and support better waste management for years to come.
