SLOPE PROTECTION MEASURES FOR EAST CENTRAL RAILWAYS

Erosion Control measures at the new railway line in Anpara, Uttar Pradesh were installed for surface strengthening and support.

To mitigate the surficial erosion and instability, Maccaferri’s secured drapery system was installed over the erosion control mats to protect the slope. Other measures such as erosion control, slope protection and rockfall barrier work were adopted suitably for other identified locations.

East Central Railways (ECR)- Dhanbad Division proposed a new railway line along the Karaila Road- Shakti Nagar section of Anpara, Uttar Pradesh. The new railway passes through a complex terrain where side slopes cutting was done at the multiple chainages and slope stabilization solutions were required.

Maccaferri offered end-to-end technical assistance, from design to execution at the site. After geotechnical investigations at the site, critical locations were identified, and a combination of solutions was proposed to mitigate slope and surficial instability. Maccaferri’s secured drapery system with a wire mesh, High Energy Absorption (HEA) panels and DT mesh was installed to provide slope protection. The drapery system was installed over erosion control mats (MacMat® R1 and BioMac® CC) as a package solution. MacMat® R1- geogrid reinforced geomats and BioMac® CC- biodegradable geomats are Rolled Erosion Control Protection (RECPs) mats installed to provide immediate protection to vulnerable slopes. Self-Drilling Anchors (SDA) on the slope with nail lengths of approx. 4m for surface and top nails were installed on the slope to provide surficial stability. The meshes used in the slope protection system are as per the existing Indian and international codal guidelines.
