Rockfall Mitigation Measures for Cut Slopes Along Dudhnoi- Mendipathar Route Of North Frontier Railway Line, Assam, India

High Energy Absorption (HEA) Panel and Steelgrid® MO wire meshes for Rockfall Protection

Rockfall protection with High Energy Absorption Panel, Steelgrid wire meshes and anchors were installed along the new railway line near Nolbari to ensure safety of passengers and railway.

Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) in India was constructing a new railway line connecting the Garo Hills in Meghalaya with Assam. In order to limit the excavation, the rock slopes were cut steeply, leading to possibilities of rockfall endangering the safety of trains, track and passengers. A secured drapery system was required on these cut slopes.

Steep cut in rock lead to possibilities of rockfall endangering the safety of trains, track and passengers. A secured drapery system was installed on these cut slopes.

Maccaferri supplied specialized flexible wire meshes such as High Energy Absorption (HEA) Panel and Steelgrid® MO as components of secured drapery, which facilitates easy and quick installation on this difficult terrain, along with Self Drilling Anchors (SDA) as surface anchors. The system was selected over other available meshes considering the requirements of high tensile strength along with high stiffness. The project was successfully completed in a short period of approximately 8 months maintaining stipulated quality and safety provisions.
