Soil Embankment Stabilisation with MacMat® R Problem

Challenge

A deteriorating soil embankment located alongside a busy roadway presented a significant safety hazard. Progressive erosion had weakened the slope, causing debris to fall onto the carriageway and creating a risk for motorists, pedestrians, and local residents. If left untreated, the instability of the embankment could have led to further slope failure, road disruption, and increased maintenance costs. An effective, long-term erosion control solution was required to stabilise the slope while maintaining the natural appearance of the surrounding environment.

Solution

To address the erosion and stabilisation challenges, MacMat® R was selected as the optimal solution for slope protection. This advanced erosion control system provides immediate protection against rainfall runoff, preventing further soil loss and reducing the risk of debris falling onto the road.

The green-coloured three-dimensional matrix blends naturally into the landscape, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing finish that aligns with the surrounding environment. In addition to surface protection, MacMat® R promotes vegetation growth, allowing the slope to regenerate naturally over time. As roots develop within the matrix, they reinforce the soil structure, delivering enhanced long-term stability.

Following installation, the matting conformed closely to the embankment surface, creating a smooth and uniform profile. The system integrates seamlessly with the soil, demonstrating both functional performance and visual appeal.
