Rotherhithe New Road

Problem

Telford Homes has bought the Rotherhithe New Road site for £19 million. This site development will include a new home for Southwark Free School and a sixth-form centre for the City of London Academy. The project could be completed in 2018.

A pile foundation is required for these buildings on soft clay material.

Solution

To create a reinforced piling mat the contractor was looking for an engineering solution with a geosynthetics product, able to reinforce and reduce the thickness of the traditional granular working platform. MacTex W1 4S was chosen by the contractor as a preferable option instead of using extruded polymeric geogrids. This woven polypropylene (PP) geotextile provides separation and reinforcement all in one product.

The high resistance against construction and environmental damage provided by the MacTex W1 geotextile has guaranteed the right performance during the construction of the granular piling mat and the installation of the pile foundation.

The MacTex W1 has a high tensile strength (up to 100kN/m) for short and long-term applications. This product will offer high resistance against damaging and environment.
