RESTAURANT SOUTHERN GATEWAY
Problem
A new Mcdonald’s restaurant was being constructed on a plot of land at Corby Southern Gateway just off the A6003 in Corby, Northamptonshire. As the site was on sloping land a 1.5m high retaining wall was required at the southern boundary to raise the site levels so that the restaurant and its drive-through could be constructed on a level plateau.
Solution
Maccaferri provided design and supply of materials to local contractors PGR Construction to construct a MacWall® segmental block-faced reinforced soil retaining wall. MacWall® is an aesthetically pleasing retaining wall system that uses split-face exposed aggregate pre-cast concrete blocks alongside a Paragrid reinforced structural backfill to produce an easy-to-install and cost-effective retaining solution.
MacWall® is a mortarless system and due to the locator lug and cam on each block, it is not necessary to have previous experience of installing the system to produce a high-quality finish. The blocks are available in a range of colours to suit individual project needs and both the blocks and the Paragrid reinforcing geogrid are BBA-certified and manufactured within the UK.
