Maccaferri, working alongside Winvic Construction, delivered a high-performance gabion retaining wall solution tailored to the needs of the Kingsway Business Park expansion. Installed around the site perimeter, the retaining walls provide essential embankment stabilisation while also acting as an effective screening system to minimise the visual impact of the JD Sports distribution centre on the surrounding rural landscape.

The system utilises gabions manufactured from polymer-coated Galmac Zn-Al 5% Double Twist woven mesh, offering superior corrosion resistance and long-term durability. Designed for a 120-year lifespan and certified by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), the solution ensures reliability and compliance with industry standards.

To enhance sustainability, the gabions were filled with locally sourced stone, significantly reducing transportation requirements and lowering the project’s carbon footprint. The inherent flexibility of the double twist wire mesh also allows the retaining wall system to accommodate ground movement and settlement without compromising structural integrity, making it an ideal solution for large-scale infrastructure and logistics developments.
