KOGGALA BEACH HOTEL RETAINING WALL

Problem

Situated on Sri Lanka’s Southern Coastline, within a short distance from Galle, Unawatuna and Talpe, Koggala Beach Hotel Galle directly faces the sea. Due to the wave action the existing rubble wall was collapsed. A cost-effective and engineered solution to safeguard the perimeter of the community against continuous erosion was required.

Solution

Maccaferri Gabion gravity retaining wall was recognized as the best solution for the slope protection (Swimming pool, Restaurant and Rooms area). The maximum height of the retaining wall was 4.5m. The Gabion wall structures are ideal solutions on account of their flexibility, drainage capacity and high structural resistance. The proposal proved to be more economical without compromising its intended purpose. PVC Coated Gabions were used: – 1x1x1m – 2x1x1m – 1.5x1x1m – 2x1x0.5m
