ALWATHUGODA RETAINING WALL

Problem

The area had experienced shallow landslides due to the heavy rain. The objective of the Client was to stabilize the area using an environmentally friendly solution which could have given a “green touch” to the landscape.

Solution

The Contractor asked the assistance of Maccaferri for a cheap and suitable slope protection system. A gravity retaining wall structure using Maccaferri Gabions and Reno mattresses was proposed and due to its economical benefits and structural integrity, the Contractor approved the system. Gabions are very effective as retaining structures, maximizing use of in situ filling materials thus economical. Its construction method is also simple and can be done even on rainy season. Further, it enables you to generate work among locals because skilled labor is not required to construct this type of wall. Reno Mattress was chosen due to its flexibility and ease of construction. It is used mainly to prevent the erosion and to improve the stability. The retaining wall height is 20m. The products used are: – PVC Coated Gabions 1x1x1m, 2x1x1m, 1.5x1x1m – PVC Coated Reno Mattress 6x2x0.3m
