SLOPE PROTECTION/ROCKFALL MITIGATION WORKS ALONG BOMDIR LUMLA ROAD
Problem
Lumla is one of the rain – devastated region of district Tawang. The road connecting Bomdir to Lumla is a 35 km stretch road and is the life line road for people of both the regions. The hill sides through out the road consists of weathered rock mass with frequent rockfalls happening specially during monsoon season. This stretch has been facing frequent rockfalls hampering the work as well as safety of the workers involved in road construction and commuters. The affected stretch identified is of appox. 150 m rock slope of approx. 90 m height. Since the rock slope consists of slide portion where huge mass of soil debris was present and other portion where weathered rocky mass was identified, therefore a composite solution involving both slope protection as well as rock fall mitigation measures are adopted.
Solution
The proposed solutions consist of following systems: Slide stretch: – Loose scaling – MacMat HS(+Bio-Engineering measures) with top anchoring and surficial pinning – HEA Panels shall be additionally installed above MacMat HS (on localized area where huge blocks are present) – Gabion Toe wall Weathered rock stretch: – Loose scaling – Secured Drapery with Steelgrid MO+ HEA Panels – Rock bolting The products are conforming to various national and international codes/ standards.
