Problem
The site is located at Malabar Hill Side, Mumbai. Landslides have been reported on hillside slope along NS Patkar Marg (Peddar Road) where strata is comprising of weak strata. Suitable slope protection measures have been proposed here.
Solution
Slope protection measures in the involving toe wall near the slope toe, biodegradable erosion control mat, mechanically woven double twist (DT) mesh with nails on slope have been proposed here. Maccaferri has supplied DT mesh for the same, which conforms to IS: 16014. Unlike Single Twist (chain-link) style mesh, the construction of DT mesh inhibits the propagation of tears in the mesh. Research shows that damage to a DT mesh remains local and the mesh does not unravel, due to the double twist ‘locked yet flexible’ connection between adjacent wires.
