Northern Coal Fields Corporation in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, faced a recurring challenge with unstable overburden dumps resulting from continuous open-cast mining operations. These massive dumps, reaching heights of up to 100 meters with slope angles between 40° and 60°, frequently subsided during the monsoon season, disrupting critical mine access roads and impacting overall operations. The challenge demanded an innovative, cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution to stabilize the slopes, protect infrastructure and ensure safe, uninterrupted mining activities.

Maccaferri provided a sustainable mass gravity retaining wall system using gabion toe walls and nonwoven geotextiles along with erosion control mat and mulching. This comprehensive approach ensured slope stability, controlled erosion, and promoted vegetation growth across the slopes. The structure has remained resilient for over 18 years, standing as a true testament to our sustainable and robust solution for mining application.
