Rockfall Protection Measures at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydroelectric Project (UTHEP), Nepal
Maccaferri's CE and ETA-certified Dynamic Rockfall Barriers were installed at Upper Trishuli-1 Hydroelectric Project, Nepal
To address the issue of rockfall events during the construction period, Maccaferri’s dynamic rockfall barriers were installed at the portal location.
The Upper Trishuli-1 Hydroelectric Project (UTHEP), a 216 MW hydropower development located in the challenging terrain of Rasuwa District, Nepal, faced frequent and unpredictable rockfall incidents during construction. Critical location such as the Power Intake access tunnel portal and the Desander Basin’s upstream and downstream access tunnel portals were particularly vulnerable, posing serious safety risks to construction teams and threatening project timelines.
To address this, Maccaferri installed CE and ETA-certified Dynamic Rockfall Barriers, each 5 meters high and 30 meters long, at three critical portal locations. Engineered to absorb impact energy up to 3000 kJ, these high-performance barriers ensured site safety, minimized delays, and delivered a reliable rockfall mitigation solution. This intervention reinforces Maccaferri’s commitment to providing resilient, sustainable, and high-performance engineering solutions in the world’s most demanding geographies.
