Soil Reinforcement Solutions from Maccaferri for the Nagreg Ring Road

The Nagreg Ring Road is 5 km long to overcome congestion on the Cileunyi-Nagreg road section caused by, among other things, an increase in traffic volume, the presence of two railroad crossing points and the Nagreg junction towards Garut as well as a steep slope/incline of more than 17 percent. 

Most of the Nagreg Ring Road is located in the topography of valleys and hills with a slope of up to 40o and has high rainfall. Besides that, this area is included in earthquake zone 3, so it is very prone to landslides and slope instability. 

Considering the availability of the existing Road Owned Area (DMJ), the construction of the road body must be built by cutting hills and filling valleys so that the planned elevation and slope of the road are achieved according to the Highways standards of the Public Works Department. The design elevation level of the road surface varies from 9 m to 36 m above the foundation soil level.

With reinforced embankment construction, the structure becomes more upright compared to conventional embankments thereby reducing the use of embankment materials. The flexible reinforcement can provide more tolerance for differences in settlement compared to rigid materials. Availability of domestic materials, ease of installation, and sufficient manpower from local origins can boost the effectiveness and productivity of work in the field. The construction is permanent, considering the life of the material can reach 60 years.
