Paramesh Provides Access Road Stability in Kuningan Dam

Like a dam in general, many excavated slopes are formed during the construction process. Unstable slope needs to be reinforced to avoid stability failure, one of them being access road section.

The combination of Terramesh® system with Geogrid by Maccaferri called Paramesh was chosen as the solution. The Paramesh structure is built with 10-13 meters of height with MacGrid™ WG as primary reinforcement which has been installed and integrated with the Terramesh® system as secondary reinforcement or facia. MacDrain™ was added as a subdrain system inside the retaining wall structure to dissipate pore water pressure to prevent failure because of excess pore water pressure.

Kuningan Dam is located in Kuningan Regency, West Java. The dam, which was inaugurated in August 2021, has a capacity of 25.9 million meters and an inundation area of 221.59 hectares. In addition to supporting the agricultural sector, Kuningan Dam also supports water security by providing raw water services of 0.30 cubic meters per second. Another benefit of the Kuningan Dam is flood control and has the potential to generate 0.5 megawatts of power.

Like a dam in general, many excavated slopes are formed during the construction process. Unstable slopes need to be reinforced to avoid stability failure, one of the cases being the access road section. The selection of the right solution was necessary to build a cost-effective structure with prompt construction methods while fulfilling the standard of safety.

The combination of Terramesh® system with Geogrid by Maccaferri called Paramesh was chosen as the solution. In this project, the Paramesh structure with a height of 10-13 meters is built on concrete capping with bored piles underneath. MacGrid WG as primary reinforcement has been installed and was integrated with the Terramesh® system as secondary reinforcement or facia. A well-compacted soil as structural fill along with the system fulfilled the safety design criteria for the retaining structure. MacDrain™ was added as a subdrain system inside the retaining wall structure to dissipate pore water pressure to prevent failure because of excess pore water pressure.

Work was completed in October 2018 and the structure is still functionally working. Natural vegetation also grows and vines are covering the Paramesh structure which can provide added value to the environment in-line with our efforts to nurture the world of tomorrow such as the transparency in our solutions’ environmental impact as declared through the Environmental Product Declaration

Maccaferri Indonesia provides comprehensive services starting from the design and planning stage with technical recommendations, manufacture and supply materials, and construction stage with Product Assistance. Most of the materials from Maccaferri Indonesia are manufactured locally in Indonesia under International and National Standardization and verified by TKDN certificate.
