FlexMac™ DT, a disaster emergency response solution in Semarang – Demak
The occurrence of extreme tides in May 2022 in the city of Semarang, can trigger another flood event. With the sea level reaching more than 210 cm, the Ministry of Public Works made an emergency response effort by installing a new embankment to control seawater in the area.

Located in the northern part of Central Java, Semarang is subject to flooding caused by high tides. In May 2022, the sea level reached more than 210 cm above sea level which could trigger another flood event. The tide is considered extreme compared to tidal records for the last 5 years from 2017 to 2021, with the highest recorded at more than 180 cm above sea level. The Ministry of Public Works is making efforts to deal with emergencies such as installing new embankments and coordinating with local officials to prepare flood control facilities.
As a contractor, KSO Nindya Karya – Mataram has been instructed to install an embankment near Ahmad Yani International Airport to control the flow of seawater in the area. The embankment is built on bamboo poles as deep as 4 meters as the foundation. The embankment is made 5 meters high with a height of 3 meters of an earthen embankment and 2 meters of FlexMac™ DT from Maccaferri Indonesia above it.
