COMBINATION OF MSE WALL and EROSION CONTROL BY MACCAFERRI FOR LANDSLIDE MANAGEMENT IN CIANJUR, WEST JAVA
An area of 43,920 m2 requires treatment to address the impacts of earthquakes and landslides resulting from the earthquake that struck the city of Cianjur and its surroundings. A combination of MSE Wall solutions and erosion control from Maccaferri Indonesia has been chosen to mitigate the effects of the landslide and prevent further occurrences due to unstable soil structures.
In November 2022, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Cianjur and its surroundings, resulting in numerous landslides. These landslides severed critical road access, causing hundreds of casualties and injuries, damaging thousands of buildings, and blocking several roads. Immediate action is imperative to address the aftermath of these landslides and to prevent future occurrences resulting from unstable soil structures. To tackle this challenge, Maccaferri Indonesia proposed a combined solution of MSE Wall and erosion control covering an area of 43,920 square meters.
Maccaferri Indonesia recommends the utilization of Terramesh® for reinforcement and MacMat® as a cover for the landslide area to facilitate vegetation growth. For erosion control in the landslide-affected region, we employ a combination of HDPE geomat and double-twisted wire mesh panels with high tensile strength longitudinal steel wires, known as Macmat® HS. To promote vegetation growth, a layer of seed-containing mulch is applied to Macmat® HS, aiding environmental restoration during the rehabilitation process.
Macmat HS® is available in roll form and is easy to install with T-shaped deformable stakes to secure the mesh on sloped surfaces. Maccaferri’s Erosion Control System offers numerous advantages, including easy and rapid installation, efficient surface drainage, support for vegetation during rehabilitation, compatibility with Soil Nailing, and suitability for steep slopes.
