Maccaferri Australasia proudly participated as a Platinum Sponsor at the Rocscience International Conference 2025 (RIC2025), held from April 6 to 8, 2025, in Sydney, Australia. The event gathered geotechnical professionals, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world to exchange innovative ideas and address evolving challenges in geotechnical engineering.

Driving Innovation in Geotechnical Engineering

With the theme “Beyond the Surface: Deepening Our Understanding of Geotechnical Challenges,” the conference served as a dynamic platform for exploring the latest advancements in research, design, and geotechnical applications. Industry experts shared insights into emerging technologies and strategies aimed at improving safety, reliability, and sustainability across the field.

As part of its active contribution to the event, Maccaferri presented a technical paper titled:

“Hybrid Barriers and Attenuators: Full Scale Tests Based on a Reliability-Design Approach for Actions and Resistances, Aimed at Calibrating Numerical Models.”

The paper highlighted research demonstrating how the Reliability-Based Design (RBD) approach offers significant improvements over the Limit State Design (LSD) method in defining actions and resistances for hybrid barriers and attenuators. Building upon these findings, Maccaferri conducted an extensive series of full-scale tests designed to refine testing procedures, establish key performance targets, and enhance model accuracy.

The results of these field tests provide the foundation for calibrating advanced numerical models that simulate the real-world behavior of structures during and after impact events. This innovative approach supports the development of more reliable, efficient, and safety-driven design methods for geotechnical protection systems.

Commitment to the Australian Geotechnical Community

Maccaferri Australasia’s participation in RIC2025 underscores its dedication to advancing geotechnical practice through research, innovation, and collaboration. The event offered a valuable opportunity to engage with the broader engineering community, exchange technical knowledge, and showcase Maccaferri’s expertise in slope stabilization, rockfall protection, and soil reinforcement systems.

Through these ongoing efforts, Maccaferri continues to drive innovation and deliver engineered solutions that ensure safety, performance, and sustainability across Australia’s most challenging geotechnical projects.
