The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), in collaboration with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), successfully hosted the inaugural Engineering Symposium and Engineering Industry Awards from 25–26 March 2026 at the Galleria in Sandton.

The two‑day event attracted more than 300 local and international delegates, bringing together a diverse cross‑section of the engineering community, including representatives from academia, students, voluntary associations, state‑owned enterprises, government entities, and practicing engineers. The symposium created a valuable platform for meaningful engagement, collaboration, and knowledge exchange across the sector.

Key discussions focused on developing innovative, practical solutions to support sustainable development, while advancing critical themes such as diversity, education, and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through constructive dialogue, industry leaders examined the pivotal role engineering can play in driving long‑term social, economic, and environmental impact.
