Fibreglass geogrid provides asphalt reinforcement to road in La Concordia

MacGrid® AR used to increase pavement service life and road safety of a highway in Chiapas

The road section had multiple cracks in the asphalt surface and needed resurfacing. Our fiberglass geogrid was used to reinforce the upper asphalt layer to increase the pavement service life and road safety.

When flexible asphalt pavements are exposed to repeated cyclical loads, rutting, pothole formation and fatigue cracking can occur. With today’s increasing vehicle use and axle loads, this problem is likely to get worse. Additionally, reflective cracking can also be a problem when asphalt overlays are placed on to existing concrete pavements.

The La Concordia road section from km 51+060 to km 52+368, in Chiapas, needed resurfacing due to the presence of multiple cracks in the asphalt surface.

We proposed to reinforce the asphalt layer, using our fibreglass geogrid MacGrid® AR 10.7 with a resistance of 100 kN/m in both directions. MacGrid® AR has a high tensile strength and high modulus of elasticity at low elongation. It provides a cost effective solution for preventing cracks in the upper pavement layers. It interlocks with the asphalt where it absorbs stresses within the road and redistributes them.
