Maccaferri Rockfall Barriers at Simpang Pulai, Perak

Simpang Pulai is a town in Kinta District Perak 10km south of Ipoh. It is one of the town which one has to pass when travelling by road to Cameron Highlands, Pahang. During the height of its days, Simpang Pulai was a bustling town which emerged with the increase of tin mining activity. The road of Simpang Pulai which leads to Cameron highland is surrounded by hilly terrains and was showing signs of debris and rocks falling from the slopes.

These incidents caused inconvenience to many road users and Pintas Utama Sdn Bhd was asked to take immediate action. Maccaferri was asked to propose a suitable solution for this issue as there are 4 different sections along the road that pose a threat of boulders falling onto the highway. It was also anticipated that the risk of debris falling reoccurrence at the same location was high due to loose rocks on the slopes. A barrier of total 500 metres in length and 4 metres in height was erected in the duration of 6 months at designated areas to fetch falling boulders, loose debris, and soil before it reaches the highway. A combination of barriers and rockfall protection nettings were used to ensure the safety of users. Maccaferri’s rockfall barriers provides flexibility and it can be installed on any rock and soil type or profile. The barriers layout is easy to be installed and it makes it ideal for use on rugged and irregular grounds.
