Road Widening at Taman Fadason, Kepong, Kuapa Lumpur

ParaLink with MacGrid and non-woven geotextile as a total basal reinforcement solution

Kepong is a town located in the northern part of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is considered as one of the federal constituencies in the federal territories of Malaysia since it was created in the 1974 redistribution. Taman Fadason which is located at Jalan Metro Barat in Kepong is a new development area and recently one of their main routes seemed to have settlement issues. The route was previously a dump site and it is believed that no proper treatment was given during the construction of the road. The client approached Maccaferri for alternatives and as a result, Maccaferri proposed our ParaLink together with MacGrid and non-woven geotextile as a total basal reinforcement solution.

Kepong is a large town located in the norther part of Kuala Lumpur near the borders of Selangor. The main access roads to Kepong are Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR 2) and Jalan Ipoh. Kepong was also involved in tin mining in early days, however once the mine got depleted Kepong gradually transitioned into a commercial and industrial area. Taman Fadason which is located at Jalan Metro Barat in Kepong is a new development area and one of their main roads was facing differential settlement issue. The route was previously a dump site and it is believed that no proper treatment was given during the construction of the road.

The client approached Maccaferri Malaysia for alternatives and with our technical experience, hence we proposed our basal reinforcement solution which consist of ParaLink together with MacGrid and non-woven geotextile as a total package. The geosynthetic was placed over the area of concern, so that in the event of the ground beneath collapsing, the geogrid and geotextile will span this void, supporting the ground above. These grids absorb, spread, span or dissipate the applied loads vertically downwards into the ground. The retaining structure was reinforced with geogrid in order to strengthen the eroded slope.

Maccaferri Malaysia have been working closely with the consultant during the design stage and they have concluded that such method is believed most suitable for the matter. The project is currently still on going.
