Renowned as the world leader in gabion retaining structures, Maccaferri has diversified significantly over the past 20 years and now offers engineered solutions from reinforced soil structures, road stabilization and natural hazard mitigation to hydraulic works and landfill construction. From worldwide headquarters in Bologna, Italy, Officine Maccaferri is a privately held company with revenues of nearly €0.5 billion, over 30 plants worldwide, more than 70 subsidiaries, local operations in 100 countries and employs almost 3000 people.
Maccaferri in the USA
Originally incorporated in 1957, “River & Sea Gabions (New York) Inc.” served as the United States based distributor of Maccaferri products until 1960 when Officine Maccaferri took over the trading company. They renamed the company “Maccaferri Gabions of America Inc.” and opened operations on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. In 1972, Maccaferri opened our manufacturing facility in Williamsport, where a separate company was established known as “Maccaferri Gabions Manufacturing Co. Inc.” The trading company remained in Manhattan, where it changed its name to “Maccaferri Gabions Inc.” and served as the headquarters of both businesses. By the end of the 1980’s, the Manhattan operations relocated to Williamsport where the manufacturing and trading company were merged into one. Maccaferri Inc. still manufactures its Double-Twist Wire Mesh products in Williamsport. In early 2017, Maccaferri relocated its Sales, Marketing, and Technical staff to Rockville, Maryland. Our new office affords us the opportunity to better serve our clients and their markets. By providing a quality work environment, we can attract and retain talented employees, allowing us to deliver support to our clients and their projects across the country.

This ensures greater flexibility, a widespread presence and a better awareness of continued market development. Maccaferri’s parent company is located in Italy with subsidiaries in North America, South America, France, Great Britain, Russia, China, Malaysia, Australia, South Africa, India, and Spain. The company is active in six continents, with 60 operating companies worldwide.
