SLOPE STABILIZATION & PROTECTION HYDRAULICS AT SUNGAI GOMBAK
Problem
Due to hot spells during the early period of 1998, the Government had imposed a water rationing for the entire Klang Valley which included Kuala Lumpur City. To find additional supply of water, the Jabatan Bekalan Air (JBA) had proposed to use water from the Gombak River. This in-take water plant was needed to protect the surrounding of the in-take area. Hence, the most practical and fastest way was to use Gabions and Reno Mattress as shown in the picture.
Solution
Gabions were used to stabilize the water in-take area whereas Reno Mattress were used to protect the opposite riverbank to prevent scouring. This work finished on time and the Minister of Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) was on site for the opening ceremony of the water in-take plant.
