SLOPE STABILIZATION & PROTECTION AT JELEBU, SEREMBAN, N.SEMBILAN

Problem

Torrential rain occurred during the monsoon season brought about a number of slope failures and in this case, it affected the Road N83 from Seremban to Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan.

Solution

This is a very winding road and this package in particular traverses through some hilly terrain, small and deep valleys. Due to limited space available at site, normal earth filling to build the embankment up the road is not practical. Gabions had been used for similar environment along the winding road to Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. As such the consultant had decided to build retaining walls using gabions. This is the most economical method to retain soil and act as a retaining structure at the same time. The length of the wall is approximately 30m and is about 12m high wall. The sizes of gabions used were 2m x 1m x 1m and 3m x 1m x 1m. This wall was completed in merely one (1) month.
