SLOPE RECTIFICATION AT TUN SARDON, PENANG, MALAYSIA

Problem

Maccaferri Terramesh wall system was applied along jalan Tun Sardon, Penang as a retaining wall to prevent erosion or any form of slope failure from happening. Landslide have been occurring off and on jeopardizing the safety of the users of the road. An upgrade on the landslide area was needed and the local authorities have decided to use Maccaferri Terramesh Wall system to function as a retaining structure along the main road.

Solution

The Maccaferri Terramesh wall system covers approximately 160 metre square of area. The length of the wall is approximately 20 metres and the height is 8 metres tall. Several other products of Maccaferri were being used in this project such as Geogrid and Geotextiles. Excavation was challenging as the site consists of solid boulders. The project took 2 and a half months to complete due to the constraint of working area. Mobilizing machineries was next to impossible due to the limited space available. However, Maccaferri have worked together with the contractor by providing technical support in completing the retaining structure within the time frame given.
