SLOPE EROSION PROTECTION AT JALAN RENGGAM, JOHOR

Problem

A soil slope along Jalan Renggam to Ulu Belitong, Johor, Malaysia contains a very high degree of acid in the soil having difficulty of vegetation to grow on it. Surface erosion occured along the slope during heavy downpour, thus obstructing the traffic and causing inconvenience to the locals.

Solution

The pH scaled of the soil on site is less than 7 therefore not many types of vegetation manage to grow on it. Maccaferri used the MacWeb 100 which is a cellular containment system built for erosion control to address the matter. It is a total replacement system in which a layer of suitable soil will be placed in the Macweb that laid on top of the acidic soil in order to encourage vegetation to grow. The cellular structure of Macweb with perforated holes is made of durable geosynthetic material that is easy to install and it is very convenient to be transported to site. Maccaferri covered a total of estimated 300 metre square of area and the project took approximately 2 months to complete.
