ROCKFALL MITIGATION AT TAMAN BUKIT CHERAS, KUALA LUMPUR

Problem

A rock slope surrounded by residential shops and houses near Taman Bukit Cheras, Kuala Lumpur started to show signs of rocks falling. Complaints of small rocks falling from the slope has urged the local authority to take precautions in treating the rock slope. Maccaferri was appointed to propose Steelgrid HR 100 to incorporate with soil nailing on site.

Solution

Maccaferri supplied an estimated of 2,400 metre square of Steelgrid HR 100 to address the failure of the rock slope. The SGHR system is an engineered combination of high strength steel wire mesh and high tensile wire rope which offers a volume of stiffness. The Steelgrid HR system was installed mainly to strengthen and prevent detachment of loose rocks from the estimated 18 to 20 metres height slope surface. Incorporated with rock bolts, this will increase the drapery stiffness and allowing the stress to be transferred and shared to the connecting bolts. The Installation of the system is very much straight forward as the adjacent rolls of mesh does not require any form of overlapping however the mesh will be connected side by side using our Hr-Link.
