Problem

The construction of the new Ministry of Works headquarters of Kedah, Malaysia requires ground treatment due to low bearing capacity. The land was previously a paddy field in which the soils are very soft. In such case, earthworks and ground improvement is a necessity before any form of construction takes place.

Solution

Maccaferri have supplied an extensive amount of geotextiles for this project in which it covers a total of 73,000 metre square of area. Due to soft soil condition on site, a minimal soil improvement is needed to restore the land to its ideal condition for construction. In this case, geotextiles are often used to prevent intermixing of sift soil with the granular fill. These polypropylene fibers play an important role in filtration to enhance drainage beneath the structure.
