EROSION CONTROL AT JALAN KEPELU, KEDAH, MALAYSIA

Problem

Jalan Kepelu is the main route connecting the district of Kubang Pasu and the state of Perlis. Being surrounded by hills and several soil slopes, landslides often occur during heavy down pour causing obstruction to road users. Authority finds it difficult to grow plants as the soil condition is extremely acidic.

Solution

The pH scaled of the soil on site not suitable for many types of vegetation to grow. Maccaferri used the MacWeb 100 which is a versatile cellular containment system with the thickness of 100mm designed to deliver effective erosion control on slopes. It is a total replacement system in which a layer of suitable soil will be placed on top of the acidic soil in order to encourage vegetation to grow. Maccaferri covered a total of estimated 700 metre square of area with cellular confinement system Macweb and the project took approximately 3 months to complete.
